Where
Montserrat Mountain is a unique and strikingly beautiful natural landmark situated about 30 miles northwest of Barcelona, Spain, in Catalonia. The mountain rises over 1,236 meters above the surrounding landscape and is known for its unique rock formations, including large eroded rock pillars that resemble human and animal shapes.
The mountain is also home to the Santa Maria de Montserrat Monastery, which was founded in the 11th century and is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Spain. The monastery is famous for its statue of the Virgin of Montserrat, also known as La Moreneta, which is believed to have miraculous powers.
How to get to Montserrat Mountain?
- By car. Carretera BP-1121, Km 4.1, 08199 Montserrat, Barcelona, Spain.
- By train. If you want to catch the train to Montserrat, you will firstly need to head into Barcelona city centre. You can take the Aerobus shuttle bus service from terminal 1 or 2 of the Airport. Get off the bus at Plaça España – from here you will be able to take the train to Montserrat. See our train to Montserrat page for further details.
Accommodation
The Montserrat Abat Marcet Apartments are spectacularly located on a hill next to the Montserrat Monastery and offer well-equipped studios and apartments. They offer views of the Montserrat Mountain National Park.
All the apartments at Montserrat Abat Marcet have a simple and bright decoration and feature heating. The seating area includes a TV and the kitchen area is equipped with a microwave, fridge, oven, and gas hob.
Stuff to bring: canteen, flashlight, comfortable trekking shoes and warm clothing.
